As a school counselor, I play an integral part in the education of all students by focusing on academic, social, emotional, and career awareness.  The school counseling curriculum provides me with the opportunity to work with students in large groups (classroom guidance) and small groups, as well as individually to provide assistance in solving problems that may interfere with their educational and personal development.

CLASSROOM LESSONS

Classroom lessons are provided throughout the year to all classes at Gateway Elementary.  Kindergarten lessons are included as a part of the students' specials rotation and these students see Ms. St. John once every six days for 45 minutes.  Other grades vary from once every two weeks to once a month for a minimum of 30 minutes per lesson.  Class activities and discussions with students focus on a variety of topics such as character education, making friends, differences in tattling and reporting, cooperation, teamwork, problem solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and career awareness.

I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. in School Counseling, both from FGCU.  Prior to returning to school to complete my education degree, I was a flight attendant for eight years.  Upon graduating with my degree in Elementary Education, I taught 3rd, 4th grades at Spring Creek in Bonita Springs (for 2 years) and 4th and 5th grades at Gateway before becoming the School Counselor in 2007.  I have been a proud member of the Gateway Staff since 2003 and love what I do more and more each day!!!  I was born and raised in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, but have called Fort Myers home since 1995.  I have 2 very spoiled Himalayans (Allie & Bella), adore pandas, and enjoy running, working out, and traveling as often as I can. I try to live by the words of my favorite quote-

"Wherever you go, go with all your heart" ~Confucius
